If you happened to have read our leftovers for 2008, you might recall that among the honorable mentions for the award for Just STFU Already–a prize ultimately granted to Jack Johnson–was “Brandon Flowers and his feather coat.” You may also recall that The Killers‘ “Human” was awarded with the prestigious Worst Lyric. Fast forward a month and this brings us to the recently released video for “Spaceman”. With the video’s premiere comes some good news and some bad news . . . well, actually, mostly bad. But, let me get to the point. If you were hoping that Flowers bagged the whole feathers on the coat thing, don’t get too excited.  In the video, the coat’s gone, but the feathers are very much still in our lives. In fact, there are even more feathers! Why you ask? No reasonable answer seems to exist. The world is a frustrating and difficult place sometimes, and we will just have to live with it.

In the video, created by “Time To Pretend” director Ray Tintori, Brandon Flowers sports a red costume that can best be described as what a feminine, football playing storm trooper might fashion for himself. He also wanders around some weird three level platform, surrounded by all sorts of absurdly dressed dancers and “characters”. Upon viewing the video, at times I don’t know if I’m watching the Broadway rendition of The Lion King or visiting a burlesque bar in GTA San Andreas (what are these guys with bandannas throwing!?). Seriously, watch this video:

Had enough Killers for a lifetime? Us too. The music’s not so unbearable though, especially in contrast with what accompanies it. However, thanks to Mr. Flowers, I’ll never see feathers the same way again.
