Apparently not even Johnny Marr’s absence can keep the Modest Mouse tour bus from hitting the road. Either that or the English guitarist’s role isn’t as permanent as we thought it to be. Whatever the result may be, one things for sure: come later this month, Modest Mouse will be embarking on a month-long North American tour without Mr. Marr.
With the former Smiths’ guitarist currently busy with his obligations as a member of The Cribs, which currently includes work on a new album and tour, Isaac Brock and Co. have tapped another notable guitarist to fill in. Jim Fairchild, former Grandaddy guitarist turned solo artist (see: All Smiles), will tour with Modest Mouse on its upcoming 21-date endeavor, which kicks off February 20th in Eugene, Oregon. Of course, those fans of Fairchild and longtime Modest Mouse historians will tell you this isn’t the first time the two sides have gotten together; MM’s Johnny Plummer will appear on both Fairchild’s new EP and full-length album, Oh, For the Getting and Not Letting Go.
