Here’s a question for you: what singer/songwriter’s new album recently debuted at #3 on the Billboard Top 200, the highest opening in 2009 by an independent release on Billboard’s main album chart? Neko Case of course! The Vancouver based musician’s new fifth full-length effort, Middle Cyclone, sold 44,000 copies in its first week, debuting right under below U2 and Taylor Swift. I guess the whole pro-animal feel really did work out…

And what better way to celebrate the news then with the announcement of a brand new North American tour…and a huge one at that. Beginning at the end of March, Case, backed by her core band of Paul Rigby (guitar), Tom V. Ray (bass), Kelly Hogan (vocals), Jon Rauhouse (guitar) and Barry Mirochnick (drums), will kick off what is currently a two-leg endeavor, which spans four months and takes them pretty much everywhere in both the U.S. and Canada before wrapping up on June 14th with an appearance at Bonnaroo. No word on whether the concerts will be open to pets…
