The Dukes of Stratosphear were from 1984-1987 what the Foxboro Hot Tubs were last year: a secret side-project launched by the members of a pretty high-profile rock out. The project started with little fanfare, but given the fact that Sir John Johns, The Red Curtain, Lord Cornelius Plum, and E.I.E.I. Owen were in fact Andy Partridge, Colin Moulding, Dave Gregory, and Ian Gregory, the same Andy Partridge, Colin Moulding, Dave Gregory, and Ian Gregor behind XTC, the secret was revealed relatively quickly.
Still, neither didn’t stop The Dukes of Stratosphear from releasing both an EP and a full-length album over the next three years, nor is it currently preventing Partridge’s personal imprint Ape House from reissuing the two works. On April 6th, the label will release both 25 O’Clock EP and Psonic Psunspot completely remastered and full of a bunch of goodies, including new artwork, a 24-page booklet, and bonus tracks.
Talk about setting a standard. Here’s looking at you Billy Joe Armstrong…
