Drug Rug. No, its not a woven poncho your shoeless, hippie friend wears around. It’s actually a band from Cambridge, Massachusetts that dabbles in lo-fi dreampop with a hint of garage rock. While the band’s name may imply otherwise, these Northeast rockers aren’t exactly living up to the stoner-esque name. They’ve hit the road with Dr. Dog, released a rarities EP entitled Kitchen Tapes and, brace yourself, have just unveiled a release date along with cover art for the upcoming sophomore effort, Paint The Fence Invisible, due on July 14. Has Above The Influence been lying to us?
The new album was recorded primarily in a haunted house in the Catskill mountains of New York, where the band decided to take a hi-fi approach to a lo-fi aesthetic. Everything was laid down on tape with the help of Carter Tanton of Tulsa, Jeremy Black of Apollo Sunshine and Julian Cassanetti. The result? An effort described as timely and timeless – ooh la la.
