With the return of Daft Punk still a year off, its member have some extra time to focus on other endeavors. For Thomas Bangalter, that apparently means penning soundtracks. According to a press notes from the Cannes Film Festival (via The Playlist), Bangalter has written the score for Gaspar Noé’s new film, Enter The Void.
The plot synopsis for the project goes something like this:
Oscar and his sister Linda are recent arrivals in Tokyo. Oscar’s a small time drug dealer, and Linda works as a nightclub stripper. One night, Oscar is caught up in a police bust and shot. As he lies dying, his spirit, faithful to the promise he made his sister that he would never abandon her – refuses to abandon the world of the living. It wanders through the city, his visions growing evermore distorted, evermore nightmarish. Past, present and future merge in a hallucinatory maelstrom.
In other words, a film that appears to be a perfect complement to the styles and sounds that is Daft Punk.
Enter The Void, which will get its debut on May 22nd at Cannes, marks the second collaboration between Bangalter and Noé. In 2002, the Daft Punk figurehead scored the French filmmaker’s 2002 film, Irréversible.
Of course, this may only be the first of a heavy Daft Punk film presence in the coming months and years; the duo is also heavily rumored to be involved in the score for TR2N, which is due for release in 2011…
…which if all goes according to plan, could see the French electro rockers supporting the release on their afformentioned return, a.k.a. “world tour.”
