In an unsurprising twist of fate, it seems that the idea of a Hole reunion is just wishful thinking — on account of Courtney Love‘s. In response to Love’s recent video from the studio, where she announced her new solo album would be under the Hole moniker, bassist Melissa Auf Der Maur seems to think otherwise. Yeah, big fuckin’ surprise there.

“I think you can’t take a Hole reunion thing that lightly,” Auf Der Maur tells ExploreMusic. “It’s gonna take a little more organizing than just ‘I’ll come and sing some backups and then we got Hole.'”

What’s actually surprising is the lack of bad blood between the two.

“All I can tell you is that I love Courtney to bits,” Auf Der Maur admits. “She’s a nutbag and I really do care about her. She’s like a long-lost sister to me.”

Whether it’s called Hole or not, the band’s former bassist will be on the new record, currently being produced by Michael Beinhorn, who worked on the outfit’s last record, Celebrity Skin. “All I can tell you is that I like singing ooos, ahs, and la-la-las behind her voice,” she insists.
