Check Out: Two new Broken Social Scene songs

Last Friday night, I had the unique opportunity of seeing Broken Social Scene play an intimate concert at The Parish in Austin, TX as part of the Arts & Crafts showcase during South by Southwest. Shortly after finishing up the second song of what would be a 16-song, two-a-half-hour set, frontman Kevin Drew asked the audience to turn off all the little red lights — in reference to ever-filming cameras — before going into a diatribe about how how “blogs and websites” are ruining our expectations and cause us to make judgments about a record before it is even released. He concluded by telling those present to, at least for one night, “just enjoy the music” and worry not about reviewing, YouTubing, or explaining to your friends what these news songs sound like. Of course, I was happy to oblige (a night off!), though I was still able to snap a few pictures before the plea.

Ironically enough, however, four days after the aforementioned performance, Broken Social Scene have unveiled two new selections from its forthcoming studio album Forgiveness Rock Record. Maybe they just wanted to ensure the bloggers and websites embedded possible sound? Either way, right now you can stream both “Forced to Love” and “All to All” (the latter of which features the newest BSS full-time member Lisa Lobsinger on lead vocals) in the widget below. Trust us, they sound even more epic live!
