Not with a bang, but a whimper. And then a series of bangs.

Isis, the Boston born, Los Angeles based metal outfit, is sadly calling it quits after 14 years of making music, the band announced via its blog on Tuesday. Though I am probably not the best person to sum up its career, I will say that when a band of its heavy nature makes its way on my radar, there must be a lot of good things being said.

Isis’ upcoming U.S. tour with the Melvins, which is scheduled to launch in San Diego next week, will go on as scheduled. Currently, the band’s last scheduled date is for June 23rd in Montreal. We’ll see if any are added, as it is hard to imagine them not going out in L.A.

As to why Isis is calling it quits, in their words:

Simply put, ISIS has done everything we wanted to do, said everything we wanted to say. In the interest of preserving the love we have of this band, for each other, for the music made and for all the people who have continually supported us, it is time to bring it to a close. We’ve seen too many bands push past the point of a dignified death and we all promised one another early on in the life of the band that we would do our best to ensure ISIS would never fall victim to that syndrome.
