Moby must be in a metal state of mind these days. In addition to his upcoming gig with new metal outfit Diamondsnake, the acclaimed DJ/singer/songwriter/hardcore rocker will also be reuniting with one of his ever bands — Vatican Commandos.

During the ealy 1980s, Moby (at the time known by his real name Richard Hall) was a member of the Connecticut based outfit. The outfit, which also featured James Spadaccini, John Farnsworth, Lindsey Anderson, Chip Moody, Chuck “Wheat” Weaver, released several 7″s during its three year existence, ultimately disbanding in 1985 and seeing Moby go on to be, well, Moby.

As BrooklynVegan notes, Moby and the rest of Vatican Commandos will be getting back together for a performance at New York City’s Mercury Lounge on July 17th. Fellow Connecticut metal bands Up Front, Ed Gein’s Car and Loud Youth will also be playing. Tickets go on sale starting tomorrow, Thursday, May 13th, via Ticketmaster.com.
