Founded in 1994, Spain’s Sonar Festival has highlighted the very best in experimental and electronic music. Since 2002, the festival has taken its high-energy vibe out of Barcelona and also held events in Hamburg, London, Tokyo, and beyond. They even arrived in the U.S. last year, holding events in New York and Washington. This year will set yet another expansion as Sonar is now setting its sights on the Windy Site — because, you know, Lolla, P4k, and North Coast isn’t enough

Set to run from September 9-11, the festival will feature two components: Sonar by Day events go down at the Chicago Cultural Center (CCC) and the Chicago Department of Cultural Affairs’ headquarters. For those night owls, there’ll also be Sonar by Night shows. The line-up will be announced in July and, per Time Out Chicago, organizers promise “some important names on the current landscape with other less mainstream and more experimental offerings.”

According to Billboard, the promoters plan on make the Chicago fest a regular occurrence. And to keep things professional, the event will be promoted by Bonaroo’s AC Entertainment in a partnership with Institut Ramon Llull.
