Gold Motel announces debut album and fall tour

The road to musical inspiration leads from Chicago to Los Angeles then back to Chicago apparently. At least that’s the path taken by Greta Morgan. After three albums with The Hush Sound, the band went into hiatus, and Morgan packed her bags and headed for California. A year later, Morgan returned to Chicago and formed Gold Motel along with Dan Duszynski, Eric Hehr, Matt Minx, and Adam Coldhouse. Later this fall, Morgan’s new collaboration will come to fruition when Gold Motel release their debut album Summer House.

The 10-track album is said to reference Motown, Patsy Cline, Diana Ross & The Supremes, and the “sun kissed retro sound that harkens back to the ’60s.” The latest single, “Safe in L.A.”, is a love letter to Los Angeles, while “Fireworks After Midnight” and “Who Will I Be Tonight” slow the pace down. Morgan herself made the record “to honor the classic songwriters of Motown, Bob Dylan, the Beach Boys, the Kinks.”

Southern California clearly had a big impact on Morgan, and you can observe this for yourself when the band hits the road in September for the start of a 16-date tour of the US. Amongst the dates are several stops at various university campuses, including Iowa State, Minnesota, and Wisconsin. There are also some festival dates, including an appearance at Pygmalion, before the tour wraps in Texas with three dates this November.
