Whether you’re a self proclaimed “gleek” or not, you’re bound to have at least heard of Fox’s newest cash cow, Glee. The show, which is likely to blame for the oversaturation of “Don’t Stop Believing” at karaoke bars these days, covers a vast expanse of music. From Journey to Kanye West and Lady Gaga to showtunes, the songs are performed by its cast with varying degrees of success. Plus, love it or hate it, you can’t deny the influence it’s had in bringing tunes to its audience that they may have never bothered to listen to before.
Yep, and we’re even talking about The Beatles. Earlier in its first season, the glee club performed John Lennon’s “Imagine” in a memorable scene alongside a rival club consisting of deaf students. The legendary Brits themselves had “Hello, Goodbye” featured in the first episode of the back nine as well. Now it seems that Paul McCartney would like to take things things even further, reports Gigwise.
According to Brian Murphy, the series’ creator, the ex-Beatle sent in a two CD mixtape of various tunes, including the group’s “Michelle”. Murphy mentioned that his initial reaction was that he was getting punked. “It came out of blue in a package, handwritten, and it had two CDs and it said ‘Hi Ryan, I hope you will consider some of these songs for Glee‘.”
Murphy is, of course, intending to take full advantage of what is being offered. He plans to incorporate McCartney/Beatles songs in a future episode, but as for which ones we’ll hear (and for that matter, what else was on the mixtape), we have no idea.
Very unfortunately, he’s not sure if there will be an entire hour long episode devoted to them ala the Madonna episode this last season. (Considering that they’re planning a Britney Spears episode of all things, that is…a little disappointing, to say the least). Nothing’s set in stone, however, so we can try hoping for the best.
As long as we don’t get an awkward rendition of “I Am The Walrus” or hear Finn try to sing “Hey Jude”, this might be something to look forward to.
