Despite their seemingly ancient name, Dinosaur Bones are alive and kicking. With their last EP out in February, the Toronto band spent the beginning of the year touring our great country, including a stop at SXSW. Back off the road and on a new label, here’s another opportunity to take a listen to the group, this time in the form of title track from their newly released Birthright EP. Do you dig that? Get it, dig? Archaeology humor slays us.
The lads’ sound has been described as haunting indie pop music. Sure, it’s not as frightening as your Lady Gaga costume on Halloween, but their Smiths-ian monotone and moody playing should send shivers up your spine (and we mean the good kind). Of course, there’s also a kind of romantic luster to it, making the whole thing one heck of a throwback, decidedly showing a slight blues undertone. Make no bones about it: this is a band to watch.
Birthright is available digitally starting today via Dine Alone. Also, make sure to keep an eye out for their debut LP, My Divider, set to hit stores in early 2011.
