Watch: Yo La Tengo celebrate Hanukkah with Jeff Tweedy

Friday night was the third night of Hanukkah, which also meant it was the third show of Yo La Tengo‘s annual Hanukkah residency in Hoboken, New Jersey. Along with the eight consecutive shows, the residency’s main draw is the promise of super surprise guests and Friday saw none than Wilco frontman Jeff Tweedy fill that role. According to the Hoboken Patch, Tweedy followed the evening’s other openers — 20 children from Hoboken’s Elysian Charter School singing angelic renditions of Yo La Tengo — with an acoustic set featuring Wilco and Uncle Tupelo classics, including “Gun” and “I Am Trying to Break Your Heart”. He also joined Yo La Tengo for joint performances of Wilco gem “Jesus, Etc.” and “Eight Day Weekend”, a reworking of Gary U.S. Bonds’ “Seven Day Weekend”. Compliments of YouTube user redienhcs4, you can watch clips of the performance above and below.
