Alice Cooper recently outlined the perfect version of his last day on the planet by saying that he’d like to spend it on Maui because “[it’s] the best place to wake up in the world anyway because [it’s] sort of halfway between Earth and heaven.” It’s also apparently where some of the biggest names in rock come to jam out. AntiMusic has reported that the 62-year-old Cooper rang in the New Year by hitting the stage with Metallica’s James Hetfield and Nickelback bassist Mike Kroeger to play his 1972 hit single, “School’s Out”.

The still unnamed supergroup also featured The Doobie Brothers’ Pat Simmons and Mick Fleetwood of Fleetwood Mac fame.  The one-off performance was part of a two-night, celebrity concert series at the Maui Theatre in Lahaina. It was supposed to benefit the Maui food bank, but the real benefit of the shindig was getting to see Hetfield looking sharp in his tropical island shirt. No videos of the song have emerged, but photos on Cooper’s website show the 47-year-old Metallica frontman wielding a Gibson Les Paul and looking more like the guy playing covers at a beach bar than the menacing man who tells us to “Obey your master!”
