As it turns out, Animal Collective‘s ongoing California tour isn’t just a warm-up for the band’s Saturday appearance at Coachellla, but also a chance to showcase several new jams. According to the band’s Collected Animals message board, Animal Collective played as many as nine new songs during their show at Phoenix Theater in Petaluma, California last night. Via YouTube user erasmustyc, several decent clips are available for streaming below; there are also videos posted here and here.

There are no details on when the follow-up to 2009’s Merriweather Post Pavilion is set to see light, but we should get some more early previews as the band continues on with their aforementioned tour dates (peep the whole list below). Also, don’t forget to pick up Panda Bear’s Tomboy, which arrives Tuesday via Paw Tracks.
