Wayne Coyne knows that his recent interest in gummy-skull making isnt exactly normal when you hold it up against industry norms, but the 50-year-old frontman of The Flaming Lips obviously doesnt abide by those anymore. His Twitter feed is the equivalent of a Flaming Lips news wire, and hes also said that he thinks not having money shouldnt mean that you couldnt have music, too.
We love music. We want it, he recently told Esquire, But without doing anything that we are aware [is] illegal, we just get it I want that to happen to Flaming Lips music. And while he believes that income shouldn’t prevent fans from having his music, he did acknowledge the fact that not every one of his fans that want his gummy skulls will get one. There are just some things in the world that, if you dont have the money, you cant have, he added.
What fans will hopefully be getting their ears around is the bands upcoming collaboration with Noah Lennox, who is better known as Animal Collectives it-boy, Panda Bear. Coyne revealed that the Lips would be working with the 32-year-old at the end of the interview, but didnt reveal any details. He also said that his band would also like to work LCD Soundsystems James Murphy and that hes waiting on a text message from Jimmy Page regarding doing some soundtrack work. Theres no telling is any of these collaborations will actually bear sonic fruits, but it looks like Coyne is committed to making this release one song at a time thing very interesting.
