Hip-hop fans are well aware of the history most rappers have with album delays. A mixtape or a new LP gets recorded and somehow it gets lost in the daily shuffle of the game, only to emerge weeks or months later (or never at all). To prevent such an incidence with his newest mixtape, Freddie Gibbs will begin and end the recording process in just one day.
Tomorrow at 6pm EDT, the Gary, IN rapper will hit the studio with DJ Statik Selektah to record Lord Giveth, Lord Taketh Away with the goal of completing the entire mixtape within 24 hours. If he’s successful, then the finished produced with be released two days later, on June 24th, through iTunes. To document the proceedings, XXL.com is hosting a Ustream webcast of the entire recording process.
Along with this mixtape, Gibbs is also gearing up for the release of Cold Day in Hell, though its previously announced release date of June 14th has since expired. Stay tuned for more info on that effort as it’s announced.
