Over the weekend, frontman Nick Cave closed a Grinderman show at Australia’s Meredith Music Festival by declaring, ”That’s it for Grinderman. It’s over.” These comments led many to believe that the band was breaking up.
However in a new interview with FasterLouder, Grinderman drummer Jim Sclavunos referred to Cave’s comments as “more a bye-bye than an announcement” and explained that ”an announcement would be like a press release, but who knows what will happen in five or 10 years time.”
Sclavunos added that the band “may well get the itch to do another Grinderman album,” but its members are now focusing their attention on a new Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds album (all the members of Grinderman are also members of the Bad Seeds.)
I dont think there should be mourning or rending of garments just yet, lets wait a few years and see what happens. Im sorry the whole things a bit vague, but we took a long time between Grinderman albums before but, we have kind of neglected Bad Seeds of late. Its been about four years since we have done anything and I think its high time we made some beautiful music together, again.
Sclavunos did not say when the new Bad Seeds album may see light, but in the meantime, check out the video for “Heathen Child” from the band’s most recent LP, Grinderman 2.
