AU announces new album: Both Lights

Portland experimental pop act AU will release its third full-length album, Both Lights, on April 3rd via Hometapes. According to a press release, the album’s 11 tracks are a reaction to the time between their last album, 2008’s Verbs, and their subsequent lives and careers. It further adds: “More than a mere accompaniment, it’s a gleaming mirror. It’s an exaltation, an exhalation, a monument of extreme composition, the child of collaboration and isolation, a preamble to a wild live show, a statue intact in the violent wind of art and commerce, and, simply, a record about love.”

For our first taste of the record, the outfit has offered up the slightly-eponymous “Solid Gold”, which first debuted on a limited-edition 7″ released last month. Slowly coming to life with a somber piano part, the track kicks into high-gear, transforming into a Bollywood-esque pop-rock sensation composed of blistering guitars, bellowing vocals, and one awe-inspiring, ultra groovy sax solo. Take a listen to the track below, just before the complete tracklist and the band’s forthcoming tour dates.
