Cadence Weapon details new album: Hope In Dirt City

It’s been three years since Cadence Weapon dropped his Polaris Music Prize-nominated sophomore record, Afterparty Babies. Now, after serving a two-year term as Edmonton, Alberta’s Poet Laureate (really!), the Canadian hip-hop artist is returning with a new LP: Hope In Dirt City, due May 29th via Upper Class Recordings.

Cadence, aka Roland “Rollie” Pemberton, is known for his cutting-edge styles and genre-blending. As a press release states, the new album looks to maintain that standard. It reads, “Composed of a unique hybrid of psychedelic soul, old school rap, IDM and mutant disco, Hope In Dirty City is a groundbreaking achievement in hip-hop.” Both of his previous full-lengths received attention from the Polaris Prize committee, so with a tagline like that, maybe third time will be the charm.

In support of the release, Cadence Weapon will head out on a North American tour with noise-rockers Japandroids throughout June. Check out where you can see the double Canuck bill after the Hope In Dirty City tracklist below. Under all that, get your first taste of the record with the recently-released music video for “Conditioning”.
