Dirty Projectors will release their sixth studio album, and first since 2009’s acclaimed Bitte Orca, on July 10th via Domino Records. Entitled Swing Lo Magellan, the 12-track effort is culled from “a sprawling twelve months of constant writing and recording in a weird house in Delaware County, New York,” according to a press release. In all, frontman David Longstreth wrote seventy new songs and beats, which were then winnowed down to forty finished demos. 12 songs made it onto the finished album.
Longstreth was joined by “periodically” by Amber Coffman (vocals/guitar), Nat Baldwin (bass), Brian McOmber (drums), and Haley Dekle (vocals). However, vocalist and fan favorite Angel Deradoorian is currently on “hiatus” and did not participate in the sessions, according to said press release.
Speaking recently with SPIN.com, frontman Dave Longstreth described the new album as stripped down, reminiscent of their 2010 collaboration with Björk, with many of the songs centered on horror and fear. As a first listen, stream the already-revealed song “Gun Has No Trigger” below.
In support of the release, Dirty Projectors have already confirmed a pair of dates for this summer — a July 10th gig at Brooklyn’s Prospect Park Bandshell and at Chicago’s Pitchfork Music Festival.
