Carpinteria, California emo outfit Souvenirs generated a healthy hometown groundswell with the September 2011 release of their debut EP, Sadder Days. The foursome quickly caught the attention of venerable punk/emo label 6131 Records, who will release their follow-up EP, Tired of Defending You, on June 5th.
The five-track effort’s latest single is “Sinker”, a cut very much in the tradition of Braid and Mineral. The instrumentation is a slightly polished version of four dudes honing their craft in garages, with an emphasis on a central, rambling bassline and a loud-quiet-loud dynamic. Still, like their predecessors, the real draw’s the angst, personified by the undertones of young heartache in every whisper and slight wail. Stream it below.
The band will be on tour in support of the EP all summer. Peep their full schedule just below the EP’s tracklist.
