Bluegrass legend Doc Watson has died following complications from colon surgery, according to CNN.com. He was 89.

The North Carolina native was blinded shortly after birth, but was undeterred from becoming one of the more influential figures in the bluegrass and country genres. Known for his flatpicking technique, Watson released over 50 albums, earning him seven Grammy awards and, in 2004, a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award.
