Coheed and Cambria’s new double album, The Afterman, promises Claudio Sanchez’s most personal songwriting to date. And though lead single “Domino the Destitute” (and its accompanying video) proved to be yet another fanatical epic, the title track’s focus is far more visceral: the death of his wife’s close friend.
“She found out about it through Facebook, which is the most impersonal way to receive this intensely personal news,” Sanchez told Rolling Stone recently. “Later that night, I sat down and just started writing a song. It became the album’s title track, from the point of view of her experience. Everything else followed from there.” Stream the haunting, string-heavy number here.
The album’s first volume, The Afterman: Ascension, hits stores October 9th via Hundred Handed/Everything Evil. The second volume, The Afterman: Descension, is slated to arrive in February 2013.
Also, ICYMI, Rock It Out! Blog’s Sami Jarroush recently sat down with the band’s rhythm section. Watch it below.
