A new face to us back in 2009, Canadian Colin Munroe’s compelling blend of singer/songwriter mentalities with electronic and hip-hop sensibilities has started creating some intoxicating buzz. Munroe’s K.Flay-featuring track “Your Eyes” received a remix from Datsik, sending it to a viral 150,000 listens in just ten days. Even more recently, a leak of an unused Drake song, “Where Were You”, turned out to be a Munroe-produced demo that ended up on his latest mixtape, Unsung Hero. Now, the first video from said mixtape has been revealed, and it’s set to bring even more attention to the musician/producer.

Though featuring G.O.O.D. Music representative Pusha T on the opening verse, the clip for “The Fight of My Life” comes sans the rapper. Instead, not-quite-literal black and white imagery flashes by in sync with the words. While Munroe sings the empowering lyrics, shots of MMA fighters, samurai helmets, and even a statue of the Virgin Mary are dispersed through the crackling of fireworks and negative colorizing. And yes, a showgirl in pasties brandishing a bloody nail-bat. All together it’s a pretty potent mix, so check it out below.

Colin Munroe’s latest mixtape, Unsung Hero, is available for download now at Karmaloop.
