Tangerine Dream cover The Beatles, David Bowie, Pink Floyd, and more on new album

German electronic stalwarts Tangerine Dream will release their 23,123,123rd album on October 16th via Cleopatra Records. Titled Under Cover, the 14-track effort collects covers of The Beatles (“Norwegian Wood”), David Bowie (“Space Oddity”, “Heroes”), Pink Floyd (“Wish You Were Here”), and more with the agenda to “explore the electronic side of classic and modern rock songs.” According to their press release:

Each member of the band selected tracks that intimately resonated with them. [Edgar] Froese chose “Everybody Hurts”, Space Oddity,” and “Heroes” on which he played synth, mellotron, and provided vocals.  Percussionist/drummer Iris Camaa selected “Wicked Game”, “Hotel California” and “Iris.”  Flutist and singer Linda Spa chose “The Model”, “Suzanne”, and “Forever Young”.  Thorsten Quaeschning, main vocalist and synth/guitar player, chose “Cry Little Sister”, “Precious”, and “Hallelujah”.  Guitarist Bernhard Beibl elected to cover “Norwegian Wood” and “Wish You Were Here”.

Stream the band’s take on Bowie’s “Space Oddity”, one of Froese’s picks, over at their Soundcloud, and peep the album’s tracklist below.

In related news, Tangerine Dream will take part in next year’s Cruise to the Edge, alongside Yes, UK, Saga, Carl Palmer, Nektar, Zebra, and Glass Hammer. The cruise departs on March 25th from Fort Lauderdale for five days around Grand Cayman and Jamaica. Wild stuff.
