yo la tengo fade Yo La Tengo announces new album: Fade

New Jersey’s Yo La Tengo stays true to their words and has announced plans to release their proper studio full-length, Fade, on January 15th via Matador. Expanding upon this past season’s Stupid Things EP, the follow-up to 2009’s Popular Songs sports 10 original tracks that create, according to Matablog, “a tapestry of fine melody and elegant noise, rhythmic shadowplay and shy-eyed orchestral beauty, songcraft and experimentation.”

Recorded with John McEntire at Chicago’s Soma Studios, the album recalls the band’s past works, specifically 1997’s  I Can Hear the Heart Beating as One and 2000’s And Then Nothing Turned Itself Inside Out, and focuses on themes of “aging, tragedy, and emotional bonds.”

There will be a deluxe, numbered version of the album, which comes printed on rainbow foil and includes a bonus 7″ that sports covers of Todd Rundgren’s “I Saw The Light” and Times New Viking’s “Move To California”. An accompanying MP3 download will also throw in an additional 11-minute bonus track. Pre-orders are now ongoing via Matador.

In support, the band will hit the road starting next month with their annual Hannukah performances. Starting in January, however, a proper U.S. and European tour will follow that will keep them busy until March. Consult the full itinerary below, shortly after a stream of “Stupid Things” and the album’s tracklist.
