“Doe, Jane, is a cozy confessionary tale riddled with delicate, yet precise fingerpicking and the raw, whiskey-soaked vocals of Alejandro Rose-Garcia, aka Shakey Graves. On the track, the Austin one-man antifolk band paints the poetic picture of a drastic change in lifestyle and his uncertainties surrounding it.
Rose-Garcia spoke of the song’s story: “‘Doe, Jane’ was written while I was holed up in Los Angeles waiting for the phone to ring. It is about the process of becoming domesticated and the fears associated with being tied to another. The name actually comes from The Wire (which I was knee deep in at the time) and refers to the tag on an unidentified dead woman’s toe.”
“Doe, Jane” is part of a digital-only EP called Donor Blues, a collection of previously unheard recordings from 2009. It’s available today.
