On their latest album, A Drink for All My Friends, Austin’s post-rock instrumentalist My Education use their bowed instruments to craft both delicate moments of serenity an dire tension. Their clip for “Mister 1986” uses found footage to conjure up similar impressions. Images of a man in a bunny helmet, bushy-haired martial artists, and that moment before a storm when it’s still rather wondrous are spliced with the band in studio. Then just as they reach their climax, a man jumps from a cliff and all hell breaks loose. The storm intensifies, the T’ai Chi looks more offensive maneuver than dance, and someone draws a gun.
