Although they’re surging ahead with a new album this May, The National will soon look back at their past efforts with a new documentary entitled, Mistaken for Strangers. The film’s premiere is set for Wednesday, April 17th at Tribeca Film Festival in New York City and will be followed by a special performance by the band.

Directed by Tom Berninger, brother to the band’s frontman Matt, the film follows the Brooklyn outfit on their globe-trotting tour behind 2010’s High Violet. At the time, Tom had enlisted himself as the band’s roadie, which led to “moonlighting as an irreverent documentarian,” eventually stirring up some tension behind the scenes.

“When my brother asked me along on tour as a roadie, I thought I might as well bring a camera to film the experience,” Tom explains in the film’s press release. “What started as a pretty modest tour documentary has, over the last two and a half years, grown into something much more personal, and hopefully more entertaining.”

“I was happy to give my brother whatever access he needed,” Matt states. “I just didn’t expect this movie to include shower scenes.”

The Tribeca Film Festival itself runs from April 17-28th. For more information, including ticketing, consult the festival’s official site.
