There was a time in early 2012 where Titus Andronicus frontman Patrick Stickles went on a covers binge, tackling Bruce Springsteen with the So So Glos and turning Lana Del Rey’s “Video Games” into a piano ballad. Now, Stickles turns his attention to former tourmates Free Energy with his version of the Love Sign party anthem “Hey Tonight”.
Stickles takes the glossy bit of pop-rock and musses it up a bit, turning it into a grimy, quasi-lo-fi garage rock number with an aesthetic happily between Titus’ manic tendencies and Free Energy’s “Matthew McConaughey in Dazed and Confused” vibe. Stream and/or download it below (via Stereogum).
