Beyoncé returns today with the possible first taste off her as-yet-untitled forthcoming studio album, the followup to 2011’s Top Star-earning 4, which is expected to surface this Spring. Titled “Bow Down/I Been On”, the track’s an erratic three-and-half minutes that could possibly leave some fans scratching their heads. For one, Beyoncé hardly sings on the track, leaving much of it to be filled with random bits of trunk bass and chopped and screwed vocal samples. But during the 40 or so seconds that she does appear, the pop superstar asserts herself in a really organic, far less gimmicky way, blasting away any notion’s she’s “just his little wife” with true gravitas. Stream it below via SoundCloud.

Update: According to Miss Info, the first half of the song was produced by “Niggas in Parris” mastermind Hit-Boy, and the second half by Timbaland.
