Listen to Imaginary Cities’ sweeping new single, “Chasing the Sunset”

Canada’s Imaginary Cities earned themselves some real recognition with their 2010 debut, Temporary Resident, including a nod for the Polaris Prize. Chiefly the duo of songwriter Rusty Matyas (The Waking Eyes, touring member of The Weakerthans) and singer Marti Sarbit, the band will return on May 28th with their latest album, Fall of Romance.

“The fact that it was just primarily myself and Marti in the studio,” Matyas says, “also meant a serious lack of clashing egos – just friends building music together.” That ease of musicianship can be heard in the sweeping pop of their new single, “Chasing the Sunset”. Gentle plumes of pianos and strings move the song along a breeze. Sarbit sings lyrics of a level-headed lover, displaying the kind of rational understanding so often lacking in at least my personal catalog of exes: “I could leave if you plead me to go / because I’ve been through days like these.” A little empathy goes a long way, don’t it? Stream it below.

The band will tour in support of the LP this spring, including a run at South by Southwest. Consult the full itinerary below.
