Listen to The Thermals’ ear-splitting new single, “The Sunset”

The Thermals’ sixth studio album and Saddle Creek debut, Desperate Ground, won’t hit stores until April 16th. Yet the album already has a well-documented reputation for being “loud, fast, dark, and catchy”. Lead cut “Born to Kill” harkened back to the earlier, grittier days of the band’s existence and that aural audacity continues to deafen on their second single, “The Sunset”.

What’s this one about? “Someone learning to deal with the harsh reality around them,” according to frontman Hutch Harris. As the album’s protagonist, Hutch belts, “Now I feel free to kill! / but I know my shadows, they follow me still / and they probably always will,” and the horrible truths he confronts run cold down your spine. Oh, and it’s loud – like, check-your-headphones’-volume-before-you-hit-“play” loud. So, don’t say we didn’t warn you.

Check out the song in two ways: the Soundcloud stream below, or the lyric video underneath. The choice is yours.
