Although delicately wrapped in warm piano tones and his sweet, pristine vocals, “On Your Own” takes soulful-pop to a deep level. Benjamin Garrett, a London based artist who goes by the stage name Fryars, digs far below the surface of the typical bubblegum ballad to poke, pry, and pull on the buried, often hidden roots of human emotion. The track translates to a cathartic meditation on feeling out of place and its Oliver Grouix-directed music video mirrors this emotional release — literally. Expect somber slow-motion scenes and lots and lots of tears below.
“On Your Own” is off Fryars’ forthcoming album, due out later this year via 670.
