What else can be said about Sasquatch! these days? What started out as a three-day music festival promoting some of alternative music’s bubbling acts, has become one of the best destination festivals in the country. Every Memorial Day weekend now, the Gorge Amphitheater gets packed with the Pacific Northwest’s wildest citizens, Canada’s most dedicated fans, and weary travelers scattered from other parts of the world.
It remains a festival where the experience matters much more than the actual music. Back in February, the online community groaned about this year’s headliners, but this is a festival that caters to the population of the Pacific Northwest, not something nationally (or even globally) like Coachella, Bonnaroo, or Lollapalooza.
Still, plenty of outdoor-friendly souls traveled long distances to see popular acts like Mumford and Sons, Macklemore and Ryan Lewis, Sigur Rós, The Postal Service, and Vampire Weekend. However, by the end of the weekend, the secret to Sasquatch! lies in the experience. No festival will take your breath away like this one — end of story.
Here’s our attempt to bottle the magic, regardless.
