The latest terrorist threat from al Qaeda has led to the evacuations of American embassies abroad and, as I myself experienced yesterday, increased security at airports. According to The Huffington Post, it also led Chicago officials to beef up security during last weekend’s Lollapalooza festival in Chicago.
ABC 7 Chicago reports that police ramped up bag searches and used bomb sniffing dogs, while also increasing the number of undercover officers present on the festival grounds.
“Even though [authorities] feel its focused on embassies abroad, with Lollapalooza here we had to take some extra steps,” Police Superintendent Garry McCarthy said during a press conference.
While no terrorist threats were reported, police did make nearly 50 arrests during the festival, including at least 10 felony drug charges.
