Last night, Tom Waits delivered his first live performance in five years at Neil Young’s Bridge School Benefit in Mountain View, California. The 10-song setlist leaned heavily on material from Waits’ most recent album, Bad As Me, including the live debuts of “Talking at the Same Time” and “Last Leaf”. He also performed “Singapore” and “Cemetery Polka” from Rain Dogs, “Lucky Day” from The Black Rider, and “Come On Up to the House” from Mule Variations.

For the performance, Waits was accompanied by David Hidalgo on guitar, Les Claypool on bass, and his son Casey Waits on drums. As to why Waits decided to make his live return at the Bridge School Benefit, he said in an issued statement, “I had every good intention to stay home and work on my JD Salinger Halloween mask, but when Neil told me yesterday he was serving burnt cow’s eyes on a flat tire and it’s all gluten free, I invited myself!”
