    Linda Perhacs - 2013

In 1970, legendary psych-folk artist Linda Perhacs released her influential debut record, Parallelograms. Forty-four years later, she finally returns with her follow-up, The Soul of All Natural Things, due out March 4th through Sufjan Stevens’ own label Asthmatic Kitty.

The 10-track effort features Julia Holter and Nite Jewel, both of whom helped inspire Perhacs to return to the studio. According to a press release, it was influenced by the documentary Inside Björk, as well Brazilian singer-songwriter Milton Nascimento (recommended to her by fellow folk artist and past collaborator, Devendra Banhart). Below, listen to a gentle and gorgeous new song, “Freely”.

In a statement, Perhacs described the motivation behind The Soul: “We get too far out of balance and we must find a way to get back to our polestar. I felt that people needed to be reminded of that. My music isn’t just recreational, it’s not just entertainment. I have a deeper purpose. My soul is giving itself to the people; I want them to be helped, I want them to be lifted.”
