Here’s another reason to enjoy 2014: Wye Oak is back with a new album on April 29th via Merge Records. Titled Shriek, the follow-up to 2011’s Civilian is comprised of 10 new tracks recorded in Brooklyn’s Rare Book Room. As frontwoman Jenn Wasner explained late last year, “There’s not a lick of guitar on this whole record. It basically inverts what we were responsible for.”
Our first indication of whatever-the-hell-that-means comes with new single “The Tower”. Sounding a tad like Strange Mercy-era St. Vincent and a frightening alternative of The Eurthymics, it’s certainly a new Wye Oak, but one we’re willing to drive around with for awhile. “Sexy” feels too easy of a descriptor, but hey, I haven’t had my green tea yet… so, there you go.
