LCD Soundsystem announce vinyl box set of final show at Madison Square Garden

LCD Soundsystem will immortalize its final show with a massive new vinyl box set. Entitled The Long Goodbye: LCD Soundsystem Live At Madison Square Garden, the five-LP set features an unabridged recording of the band’s near four-hour farewell concert at New York’s Madison Square Garden on April 2nd, 2011.

    According to a press release:

Produced and mixed by LCD founder and frontman James Murphy, The Long Goodbye is the ultimate audio document of LCD Soundsystem’s now legendary final show. The album’s exclusive mix brings new life to every note of music played during the epic MSG show.

The box set will be released in time for Record Store Day, April 19th, and will later be available through all retailers and digitally on May 20th.

LCD Soundsystem previously documented the concert in the 2012 film Shut Up and Play the Hits. Murphy discussed the differences between the film and the new live album in an interview with Rolling Stone last December. “I mixed it significantly differently than the film, because the film is mixed for your eye and the record is mixed for your ears,” Murphy explained. “The film is mixed digitally, because you have to watch it in a theater and make little adjustments all through for a four-hour film, whereas the record is just mixed analog to tape, the way I normally do.”
