Amen Dunes is the lo-fi folk project from New York musician Damon McMahon. On May 13th, he’ll release his new album, the ambitiously-titled Love, via Sacred Bones. A record nearly two years in the making, McMahon was influenced by the likes of Van Morrison’s Astral Weeks, Marvin Gaye, and Sam Cooke. In addition to longtime collaborators Jordi Wheeler (guitar and piano) and Parker Kindred (drums), Love will feature contributions from members of Godspeed You! Black Emperor, Colin Stetson, and Elias Bender Ronnenfelt of Iceage and Vår.
“Lonely Richard”, the first single off the forthcoming effort is a freewheeling, country-tinged track marked with scraping strings, rhythmic acoustic guitars, and McMahon’s slight drawl. It’s a great track, and one that recalls open roads, summer sunshine, and stripped-down Americana. Listen in below.
