Speaking recently with Rolling Stone, Blitzen Trapper frontman Eric Earley described the creative aim for the band’s latest albumVII as two-fold: “We definitely wanted to do something that had good, danceable beats, but something that was good to drive to.” Southern-fried outtake “Coming Home” certainly accounts for backyard hoedowns or that cross-country road trip with a rollicking mix of swinging sax and funkly blues guitar.
“With this track we wanted to lay down some good old-fashioned country funk, with horns and banjos side by side,” Earley explained. “It recalls the swampy truck stop sounds of Jim Ford or Mac Davis, telling ourselves that home is just around the bend.”
