Pink Mountaintops announce new album, Get Back, stream “North Hollywood Microwaves”

It took a while, but Pink Mountaintops, the rock ‘n’ roll project from Black Mountain’s Steve McBean, have announced the follow-up to 2009’s Outside Love. Hitting stores on April 29th via Jajaguwar, Get Back marks the band’s fourth studio album and features J Mascis and Giant Drag’s Annie Hardy.

According to press materials, the album was inspired by “Alleys, curbs, walls, and cigarette-stained gig flyers. An island on the Pacific coast. Fake British towns. Slayer posters. The beauty of youth,” adding, “It’s about listening to ‘Driver’s Seat’ and ‘Guns of Brixton’ and hotboxing The Duster.”

Along with the album announcement, Pink Mountaintops have shared an incredibly crass single called “North Hollywood Microwaves”. Built on a soloing saxophone, clanking power-chords, and a whole lot of attitude, it’s one not for the faint of heart. The bratty song finds Annie Hardy sharing vocal duties with McBean, where she ends up getting the lion’s share of the song’s crudest lines. Without breaking a sweat, she sings nasty bits about bears, babies, and even brings up that oft-cited yet false rock history myth about Rod Stewart getting his stomach pumped. Accurately deemed by the label as “maybe the filthiest song we’ve ever released”, “North Hollywood Microwaves” is a barreling force of pure fun. Listen in below (via Stereogum).
