Kanye West has been sentenced to two years probation stemming from an attack on a photographer last summer at Los Angeles International Airport.
As TMZ reports, West’s lawyers submitted a plea of “no contest” to charges of misdemeanor battery and attempted grand theft. (Though, as CBS notes, he previously pleaded not guilty to both charges). As a result of the plea, West will not be prosecuted. The attempted grand theft charge has been dismissed, and if he doesn’t violate probation for the next 24 months, the entire conviction may be removed from his record.
In addition to the probation, West has been ordered to perform 250 hours of community service, attend 24 sessions of anger management, and spend one day in jail, though he is expected to be booked and released simultaneously. West is also financially responsible for replacing the photographer’s equipment and his subsequent medical bills.
As noted, West claimed that “his safety was in immediate danger” and that he “responded to this assault by doing only those acts that were reasonably necessary for his self-defense.”
