Sadie Dupuis isn’t a stranger to out-of-left-field covers. In November, the Speedy Ortiz frontwoman took on Ciara’s “Ride” for the Boston-based Half Pint Collective compilation series. Now, for another upcoming covers compilation, this time through Father/Daughter Records, Dupuis contributed her own on version of “Just Pretend To Nice”. The song was originally written by Fountains Of Wayne bassist Adam Schlesinger and performed by Josie and the Pussycats for the 2001 Josie and the Pussycats movie. Dupuis’ rendition is much more subdued than original, taking on more melancholic air and scrapping the song’s sleek sugar-pop excess. Listen below.
Billed as “faux songs by real bands”, the cleverly-titled forthcoming compilation Faux Real (fo’ real, get it?) also features covers from Field Mouse, Bent Shapes, Potty Mouth, and Levek amongst others. It will be released on Record Store Day (April 19th) and according to Father/Daughter Records’ Facebook Page, “the only way to get it is to tell your local record store to order it.”
