The co-headlining tour Nine Inch Nails and Soundgarden teased last week on their Instagram accounts has finally been confirmed. The rock heavyweights have announced  a 24-date summer tour that will see them hitting most of the major U.S. markets. What’s more, Death Grips will open every show. And the winner for Most Absurd Yet Awesome Bill of the Year goes to…

The tour will see Trent Reznor’s pared down NIN lineup making its stateside debut supporting Hesitation Marks. (The four man configuration premiered on their co-headlining Australian/New Zealand jaunt with Queens of the Stone Age.) For their part, Soundgarden will be playing in continued celebration of the 20th anniversary of their record Superunknown.

The fact that Soundgarden is on the road recognizing Superunknown makes this co-headlining stretch a bit ironic. The last time the bands played together was in 1994 at Molson Park, Ontario, when Nine Inch Nails was determined to upstage Soundgarden after their album Downward Spiral was beat to the Billboard No. 1 spot by, yep, Superunknown.

“We had a chip on our shoulder about Soundgarden,” Trent Reznor said of that ’94 show. “That became a kind of professional showdown. And we did show them.” Reznor also spoke critically of Chris Cornell’s 2009 solo record Scream, insinuating that Cornell had sold out by using Timbaland as a producer.

All of that seems to be behind the bands, though, as their new tour kicks off July 19th in Las Vegas. Check out the full itinerary below. Both bands are also slated to headline Lollapalooza’s South American incarnations in Brazil, Chile, and Argentina. Find their individual schedules under the joint dates.

Update: According to Brazilian publication Globo, Matt Chamberlain will serve as drummer for Soundgarden’s upcoming tour. Matt Cameron previously announced he’d be touring with Pearl Jam.
