For Bob Dylan, the 1980’s were a rough decade. Though he released seven studio albums during that period, few were critically acclaimed — some were deservedly criticized (like the aimless Knocked Out Loaded, the disappointing Down In The Groove), some not at all (like Infidels and Oh Mercy).
But according to ATO Records, who are releasing the tribute album Bob Dylan In The 80s: Volume One on March 25th, this Dylan-era is simply misunderstood and worth revisiting. Now, the first installment of the compilation is streaming in full over at CBC.ca.
Spearheaded by producers Jesse Lauter (Elvis Perkins, The Low Anthem) and Sean O’Brien, the tribute album highlights some hidden gems from Dylan’s most ignored and maligned decade. The tracklist features a diverse cast of Dylan-aficionados, including Built To Spill, Glen Hansard, Deer Tick, Craig Finn (of The Hold Steady), Blitzen Trapper, Lucius, Slash, Reggie Watts, Aaron Freeman (of Ween), and many more.
